Why does current increase with increase in load?

All the load or the appliances we use are connected in parallel to the supply. They can be thought as resistors connected in parallel. The equivalent resistence of these resistor will be less then all of them. Since the current is inversly proportional to the resistence, the current drawn from the source will increase.
